Maxim announced the launch of ultra-compact, pin-compatible MAX20075 and MAX20076 step-down converters to help system designers build small, high-efficiency applications that need to withstand 40V load dump. The MAX20075 and MAX20076 step-down converters provide the industry's smallest quiescent current (IQ), ultra-small solution size, and integrated internal compensation. This solution requires minimal external components and saves up to 50% of board space, making it an ideal product for uninterrupted power supply automotive applications.

Customers want uninterruptible power supplies for vehicles to bring richer and cooler experiences than ever before. Designers face even greater challenges: they must optimize between advanced features and small size, energy efficiency, and efficiency.


The MAX20075 and MAX20076 use peak current mode with the industry's lowest quiescent current—only 3.5µA in low-power operating mode. This is the key to achieving 100 µA of quiescent current per module required by the OEM. The converter enables the spread-spectrum or 2.1MHz fixed operating frequency through the pin, supports low-noise operation, and meets the EMI requirements of the CISPR 25 Class 5 standard. In addition, compared with non-synchronous devices operating in the AM band, another advantage of the 2.1MHz operating frequency and internal compensation is the reduced solution size and bill of materials (BOM). MAX20075 and MAX20076 support the minimum on-time mode, which can provide a large input-to-output conversion ratio. For example, allowing the IC to switch from Vbatt input to Vout less than 3V (2.1MHz operating frequency), which means that an auxiliary power supply can be omitted, reducing the total BOM cost by $ 0.30, in order to integrate new features in the design and achieve higher flexibility. The MAX20075 and MAX20076 are AEC-Q100 qualified, are housed in a 3x3mm TDFN package, and operate in the -40oC to + 125oC ambient temperature range.
