Renesas Electronics introduces R-Car V3H SoC for front-view cameras for Level 3 and 4 autonomous vehicles
Renesas Electronics Corporation, a leading global supplier of automotive semiconductor solutions, today announced the launch of a new R-Car V3H system-on-chip (SoC). This SoC provides powerful computer vision performance and artificial intelligence processing capabilities for automotive front-view cameras with industry-leading low power consumption. It is suitable for mass production of level 3 (conditional automation) and level 4 (highly automated) self-driving cars. 1. The new R-Car V3H SoC is optimized for stereo front-view camera applications. Its computer vision performance is five times that of the R-Car V3M SoC announced on April 11, 2017 for NCAP Note 2 front-view cameras. As part of the open, innovative and reliable Renesas Autonomy ™ Platform for autonomous driving assistance systems (ADAS) and autonomous driving (AD), R-Car V3H enables Tier 1 suppliers and OEMs to flexibly implement their assisted driving to highly autonomous driving The road to cars.
Advanced R-Car identification technology
The R-Car V3H SoC focuses on the architecture optimization of computer vision processing and supports all ADAS-related functions from conditional autonomous driving to highly autonomous driving. R-Car V3H uses Renesas ’heterogeneous computer vision kernel concept based on the IMP-X5 + image recognition engine and dedicated hardware accelerator, and implements it with algorithms including dense optical flow note 3, dense stereo parallax note 4 and object classification note 5. Advanced perception capabilities. The integrated CNN Note 6IP accelerates deep learning with an industry-leading low power consumption of only 0.3W, and achieves 2 times the performance of the deep neural network of R-Car V3M.
Scalability and cost savings
The R-Car V3H is based on a proven IP that has been used in the R-Car V3M. It uses a dual-channel image signal processor (ISP) to convert the camera sensor signals to create an image and perform identification processing. This IP reuse ensures the scalability from the NCAP system using R-Car V3M to the 3- and 4-level smart camera systems using R-Car V3H, saving development time, and making the system no longer require each camera to have ISPs have reduced costs. To further save system costs, the R-Car V3H uses only a single LPDDR4 memory, thus reducing the cost of memory components compared to other front-view camera solutions.
Open platform solution
Tier-1 suppliers and OEMs can choose to develop their own forward-looking camera solutions, or work with leading partners from the Renesas autonomy ecosystem, which is supported by many leading forward-looking camera partners such as Hella Aglaia.
